In the last couple years, the indie game "Minecraft" grew in popularity among AdVENTURE students. Minecraft, was created by Markus "Notch" Persson on May 17, 2009. Since then, the beta version has been released and Notch has created his own company "Mojang". Many updates have also been created in that time. Notch's story is extremely incredible. It's hard to believe that a game that sells another copy every second was originally an idea for a college project! Notches company has also created some less popular games, like Scrolls and Cobalt. Notch says he will keep working on Minecraft until sales start dieing down. After a certain amount of time, he will then release the source code for educational purposes! A little bit less than half of the AdVENTURE 6th graders own Minecraft. "It's so popular because it brings back the old classic styles of old games to the new generations. Plus it is creative and overpowers its competitors like Roblox." says Jose. "It's just really creative" says Niko. Minecraft has also inspired some culture. An animal in Minecraft called a "creeper" is used in so many drawings and figurines! Minecraft however, does have some enemies. "Roblox" is starting to catch up, and more and more block style games are coming out, including "Brick force" and "Blox land", but Minecraft is superior in most categories, including game play, and shaders. Plus, Minecraft is updated frequently, unlike Roblox. Minecraft's newest update will include writing in books, and pens! Tomorrow, the XBox version of Minecraft will be released. With the XBox release, it is hoped that more platforms will follow, how ever, Notch's team is caught up updating, so other Minecraft on other platforms might not happen. If you would like to learn more about Minecraft's history, you can watch the Evolution Of Minecraft on youtube
